About our Volunteer Tutors

Carol Bagley tutors a Messmer Saint Rose student in math. Our volunteer tutors are women and men, ranging in age from 18-85+, who come from all walks of life and experiences. They volunteer in elementary schools, public schools, Catholic primary and middle schools, English as a second language programs and reading programs. Online education is on the rise; teaching remotely is still a relatively new experience. Rising Stars tutors help ensure learning isn’t disrupted during this national health crisis.  Find yourself on the forefront of the online educational movement. We don’t require our tutors to have a teaching background and/or specific academic or professional experience. All we require of our tutors is that they are enthusiastic, patient, flexible and compassionate. Students quickly come to look up to and depend upon our tutors, because our tutors encourage trust and openness during every tutoring session. The total number of hours a tutor volunteers for is not limited as long as a consistent and reliable schedule is kept each week. Times are flexible, and we work with our tutors to place them in their areas of interest (reading or math), in time frames that best work with their schedules and our schools. Every spring, we recognize our tutors and the work they do through an appreciation celebration. In the fall, we gather for an educational/training presentation. Our volunteer tutors receive a new or increased sense of responsibility and awareness for what teachers must do to transmit knowledge to students and empathy for students for whom learning may be much more of a struggle. Your success as a tutor is not dependent upon how much you know but rather, how much you show up and care!
